Another good comment
Read this on the telegraph's website this time from a user named: morph
Sarah Hanson-Young is dreaming if she thinks releasing them to the community would be cheaper. In detention centres they are housed fed and cared for with shared facilities. In the community they would expect separate housing, food, medical care and welfare. There would be no scales of economy, unless she was going to share her place with 5600 asylum seekers.....Not likely

Mythbusting a ‘Mythbust’: GetUp’s Refugee Animation
I just saw this advertisement from Australian Action Group GetUp! relating to the treatment of refugees leading up to the 2010 election campaign. There are fundamental problems with this ad, and I see it as a direct attempt to mislead Australians (along with many other GetUp! campaigns).
SMH: Push to pay Killer $500,000
Just read an article in the Sydney Morning Herald Online today titled "Push to pay Chinese killer $500,000":
THE Human Rights Commissioner, Catherine Branson, wants the federal government to pay $500,000 compensation and apologise to a Chinese man convicted of double murder who has been refused a visa.
After reviewing the facts/the story, I find it to be outrageous that Ms Branson has called for our Government to accept 'NK' into the country and further conpensate him for the time he has spent in immigration detention. This may be an unfortunate situation that he and the Australian Government are in, however, it doesn't excuse the crimes he committed in our country. Further, the Australian Government is protecting him from potentially serving further punishment in his own country, ie. The death penalty.
To understand fully what had occurred to prompt this situation, see the quoted text below:
He was convicted on two counts of murder three years later, and served 15 years of a 20-year sentence. Ms Branson said the State Parole Authority had found ''NK'' suitable for community release in 2006, but federal immigration ministers would not place him in community detention. He was refused a protection visa because he fails the character test.
I hope that the Government looks at having tougher immigration policies that require immediate refusal of visas for anyone with prior Criminal Convictions and greater powers given to our immigration department. I (and are joined by a lot of Australians) want to see immigration to our country, but want to see the correct people being accepted into our country. People that will embrace the Australian culture, and bring benefit to the country.
Let me know what you think, if you have a different view, in the comments section.

SMH Comment about Asylum Seekers
Here is an excellent comment posted by an anonymous user on the Sydney Morning Herald website (in response to one of their published opinion articles). I couldn't agree more.
